SIR30216 - Certificate III in Retail

This qualification reflects the role of individuals who have the primary responsibility of engaging the customer, maintaining daily store operations and delivering on organisational expectations. They have sound knowledge of product and service offerings. These individuals possess a range of well-developed skills where discretion and judgement is required. They work with some independence under limited supervision. Some individuals working at this level are responsible for supervising other team members and monitoring day-to-day workplace operations.


The qualification provides a pathway to work in a diverse range of retail settings including specialty retailers, supermarkets, department stores and quick service restaurants.


Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as frontline sales assistant, customer service representative, shop assistant, retail supervisor, team leader and senior sales assistant

     Fully-integrated workplace learning

    Most of the learning takes place on-the-job, and is supported by learning materials from the workplace and the educational institution. Learners are supported by their employers and by staff (eg. supervisors at work and in their educational institution). It includes learning for attaining qualifications, as well as professional learning that seeks to develop people already in work.

    • an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen?



    Types of courses you're eligible for

    Your eligibility for a government-subsidised Smart and Skilled course no longer depends on your previous qualifications:


    • From 2016, all students, regardless of the level of any previous qualifications held, are able to access subsidised Smart and Skilled training up to Certificate III level. This means that even if you have a higher level qualification you may still be eligible to re-train to enter (or re-enter) the workforce.
    • You can also enrol in subsidised training at Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma level, depending on the availability of funding for these courses.

    Previous qualifications do not affect eligibility​​​​​​​ but may affect the student fee.
